About the Artist

TRINA
a passion for painting
Trina Smith, a native of Rome Georgia, lived in Texas for thirty-five years and now makes her home in Evans Georgia with her husband, Gregory.
She paints two dimensionally most often in oil and water media, along with some work in pastel. She strives to share the wonder she feels when viewing everyday scenes or subjects with pleasing form, vibrant color and fleeting light.
A graduate of Auburn University, Trina has had the opportunity to visit hundreds of inspiring museums and galleries worldwide as an employee of a major US airline.
Trina has won the Purchase prize at the Central Texas Oil Patch Museum in Luling Texas and Best of Show at the Come and Take It Festival in Gonzales Texas. She illustrated the cover of Augusta Chronicle's Applause the Arts in 2019, and has illustrated several children's books.
Trina finds both challenges and joy in trying to capture the emotional beauty she is experiencing, whether rendering small plein air studies or larger studio paintings. Regardless of where her travels take her, she finds compelling subjects to paint.
Private collections around the USA include Trina's artwork.
"Color. Shape. Light. Shadow. All of these fascinate me and compel me to transfer what I'm seeing and feeling to paper or canvas. Whether it be a tranquil landscape, an approaching storm, a dramatically illuminated still life or someone engaged in everyday activities, I delight in manipulating my materials to capture and share what I am experiencing. I try to incorporate what I've learned from my instructors including professional artists, Al Brouillette, Darnell Jones and Don Andrews.
Oil and watercolor are my primary media, along with some pastel and gouache. I enjoy painting both small plein air studies and larger pieces completed in my home studio. Painting is where I find purpose, contentment and sometimes humor. I love sharing these feelings with others."
